FULL TERM!

As of Tuesday I hit the full term mark!! (37 weeks) It's the last milestone of the pregnancy to reach so I guess you can say we are there! Any day now Miss Ella James will be joining us! Ready doesn't even explain how I feel at this point. I am just done! We go to the doctor on Tuesday to have an ultrasound which will determine Ella's weight and help us decide if we are having a c-section or being induced. Either way it will likely happen a week from Tuesday (November 3rd) or in the few days following that depending on how crowded the hospital is. I was a little bummed leaving the Dr yesterday because I thought that we would be having her next week but unless she decides to come on her own before then it will be a week from Tuesday. As Mom says, "you can do anything for a week". So that's the attitude I am trying to have. I will keep you all posted and certainly let you know if something happens sooner!

4 Weeks (OR LESS) to go!

So...4 weeks, at the most, to go!!! I am feeling ok, I guess. Just the common end of pregnancy complaints....lower back pain, really swollen feet, really tired, can't get comfortable at night, using the bathroom every other minute, etc. Every time I move Drew asks me, "Are you ok??!!" Apparently I grunt, moan or whimper every time I do anything! It either sounds like I am in pain, something major has happened or I am dying each time I move a muscle.

Dr Cousins explained to us this week that on the 27th (my next scheduled ultrasound) we will be deciding the baby's birthday and how she will be entering the world. It all depends on estimated weight. (which can be way off but they are going by it anyway) If she is weighing over 4000grams, 8.? lbs (close to 9lbs) then I will be having a c section the following week due to babies of gestational diabetes people having broader shoulders. If I were to try and deliver her and her shoulders were to get stuck in the birth canal then it would be a real emergency situation. If she is weighing under the 4000g mark then we will be induced that next week. This is the plan we are praying for!!! I am a big believer in vaginal rather then c section. It is healthier for mom and baby. Not to mention the recovery time is way less. I know some people that have had great experiences with them but everyone is different. I personally, do not want to go through that. C sections are a major abdominal surgery and I would rather my guts be left out of the birthing process!! All of this will make no difference if she decides that she is ready before the 27th!!!

Whichever way she gets here, there is no doubt that she will be here in 4 weeks or less!!!! I cannot believe that we are here! Bags are packed, car seat is installed, nursery is ready to go, Mommy is READY and Daddy is too! It is crazy that I was dreaming about being at this point 8 months ago and here we are! Check Momma out.....

We graduated Birth & Baby Class at the hospital last week. It was a five week class. Mostly on the labor process but some on after the baby comes at the last class. I told Drew that we may have been puppy school drop-outs (Bentley did not graduate) but at least we graduated birth & baby school! I didn't learn every much because of all the reading I have done and the little medical background I have but I think it was really good for Drew. He learned a lot about the whole labor process and how to help me through it. Here are some cute pics of Drew learning to swaddle the baby...

Other then all of that the only news is that we are seeing the Dr TWICE a week now. I have 2 non-stress tests a week. That is where they hook me up to the monitors to compare her heart rate and activity as well as my contractions to make sure that she is not under any stress. If I fail that (which we did 3 weeks ago) it is no big deal, we just get to have an ultrasound that day. She passed that with flying colors the day we failed the NST. She just likes to sleep through the test every once in a while. Kinda like her Mommy in college! lol! And I also see the Dr at one of those visits a week. So far no progress "down there". Just pretty regular contractions that are in between braxton hicks (practice) contractions and real ones. I say that because they are starting to hurt and becoming regular although they are not changing my cervix yet.

Oh yeah, AND....my awesome boss' have changed my work schedule to 9-4!! So I am 30hrs now rather then 40. (yet at my same pay) It makes a big difference! I am slow in the mornings and swollen in the afternoons so the extra time not here helps a lot!

Hope you are all doing great!

Much Love, Laine

Showered with love....

And LOTS of gifts!! I had two baby showers this past week! One at the office on Thursday and the other one my girlfriends threw on Saturday. We are TOTALLY ready for Miss Ella's arrival!

I have never felt so loved and appreciated in my whole life. The staff and agents at my office are some of the most generous people I know. I am truly blessed to have worked with such great people for the past 3 1/2 years and will miss them dearly. (Well, most of them!! he-he) They had a huge spread of food and I did not pay any attention to my special diet for the afternoon. I was nervous about falling out into a diabetic coma right there in front of everyone but I did just fine. Needless to say, I skipped my reading that evening. I didn't even want to know what I had done to myself! Anyway, the food was delicious and the gifts were abundant! We got the stroller, car seat and base, jumperoo, tons of books and clothes and many other items both on and off of the registry. Drew came and helped me pack my car after it was over and we went straight home and washed, folded and put away all the clothes and put together everything that needed it! Here are a few pics....

The shower on Saturday was a really special luncheon. The decorations, flowers and small details were all amazing. It was the most beautiful baby shower I have ever been to...and it was MINE!!! :) I loved it! They used little mini favor baby bottles filled with pink Hersey Kisses as the place cards with each persons name on them at their seat! They were too cute! Weezie, the talented and creative little teacher that she is, cut out "Its a girl" and hung it like a clothes line. The two least florist girls in our group, Sarah and CP, put together gorgeous flower arrangements all over the house. It was beautiful to say the least. I have some of the best friends a girl could have....we got everything that their was left that we could possibly ever need plus some extra goodies! (pictures coming soon!)

By the way, did I mention that my sister ROCKS? She drove from Asheville AGAIN to be by my side on a special day. I have to give her credit because I made the drive to Asheville for her birthday and it was NO fun. She has probably made the drive just for me 20 times in the last year! All of the wedding parties and showers, the wedding, the second she found out I had a miscarriage, baby showers, etc. I really appreciate all you do for me sister! Oh, and for those of you that don't know, I have called her sister for many years now and Drew came up with her Aunt name the other day. She is officially, "Aunt Sister"!!! :)

On the way to the shower on Saturday I had one of my emotional moments that kept escalating as I was thinking about everything that has taken place over the last year. I started thinking about how a year ago that day I was off to the beach for my bachelorette weekend with my best girlfriends and how blessed I am to have each one of them in my life. (So I was a little teary eyed here) Then I started thinking about how I married my very best friend in the whole world and how he has made every dream of mine come true. (Eyes are by then full and had to be blotted) Then I started thinking about how in just a few short weeks I will be holding my sweet little girl that I will love more then life itself!! (Now I have the air on full blast and I'm holding my face about 2 inches from the vent and blinking like crazy) Anyway, the point is that yes, it was another one of my many emotional moments but the past year has been amazing! I have had my valleys for sure but the hills are more like mountains, really big ones that I will ski down one day with my little girl!!! And for that I am forever grateful!!

So we went to see Dr. "Cuzz" today. We had an ultrasound which was really fun because we had been 15 weeks without seeing little Ella's face. She has chubby cheeks now and is definitely still a girl! There is plenty of amniotic fluid, her size is right on target (they guestimated 4lbs 5oz), heart rate was 152, my blood pressure was great, my weight gain was 0lbs :) but Ella is gaining weight just fine, etc. I had to get put on medicine for my gestational diabetes but only once at night to keep my morning readings down where they need to be. They have been about 2-6 points above where they need to be so I must be dreaming about all the food I cant have while I sleep at night. lol. So with the medicine comes the label of being "high risk" meaning I have to go in once a week for a non-stress test. They will hook me up to a heart monitor and movement monitor to make sure that Ella is still progressing accordingly each week. Dr. Cuzz also said that we will be delivering (induced) the week before I'm due if I haven't on my own by then. Sounds good to me! I will take her whenever I can get her as long as she is healthy and ready to go!

I have a lot of random pictures to update with but it will have to wait until next time.....
Love to all,
Laine

Miserable Monday....

So I had a bad day! It started off by waking up to a dark bedroom with the sound of rain hitting the roof…..my favorite sound EVER! Too bad it was MONDAY and I had to get up and get ready for work. I wanted to sleep in like never before. Anyway, I unwillingly got up and started to get ready for work when I realized, Ella is STILL laying funny somehow on my sciatic nerve which is sending sharp pains down the right side of my back, through my rear and down my right leg. Awesome Ella! So after going in for an hour and walking around like a chicken it was time to go to the Dr.

As we are walking down the hallway with the nurse to our room, after the other fun things…..”Hop on the scale” (ha! What a joke!), “leave us a sample” (aka…pee in a cup), “lets check that blood pressure”, yada-yada……Dr. Cousins sees my gimping down the hallway and boy did she say the WRONG thing!!!! She asked, “What’s wrong with you”. The nurse replied, “She has a bad case of sciatica going on”. Dr Cousins then says, “HAHA, That babies already getting on your nerves!!” I think to myself, “Clever.” Then she busts out with, “And the funny thing is, there is NOTHING we can do for it!!!!” Oh no, that did not sit well with me. I felt my chin start quivering like a 2 year old and then came the tears. I burst into tears uncontrollably. As the nurse is listening to the baby’s heartbeat I am laying there with tears streaming into my ears. I don’t think it was really what she said but more that the timing was just REALLY bad. I have been in so much pain since Friday with this that the thought of 9 more weeks of it is almost unbearable. She came in and totally apologized saying that she didn’t know I was going to get so emotional. Hell, I didn’t either. But I surely did!

Anyway, Dr. Cousins wants to see me every week starting now so we can really pay attention to my sugar counts. I am close to where I need to be but not quite. I think with paying a little more attention to what I am eating it will be fine. I am having to stick my finger 4 times a day but if I have good numbers over the next week I go down to twice a day. After crying like a baby in there I went over my weekly list of questions and number one on there was, “Can I get an ultrasound soon?” Her response was, “mid-thirties”. I assumed that meant thirty five weeks but when she handed me my chart she said “See you next week for sugar check and then the next for your ultrasound”. I guess crying got me what I wanted…something I am sure Ella will have no problem with!

I have so much more to add to my terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day but it is 6:30 and Drew is at home waiting on me for dinner. I worked late partly because it was the last day of the month and also to get my desk cleared to start training the girl that will be taking my place tomorrow. Yep, the word is out. Everyone here knows that I am not coming back (right away) after the baby is born. Tom (my boss) sent out a really sweet email to everyone today explaining that I am leaving as staff but plan on returning as an agent in the future. “Near future” if you ask Drew! Right babe?!

Love to all,
Laine

7 Months / 29 weeks

I know I have been slacking here lately but we have been pretty busy. Here are some picture updates for ya. The bedding I had made for the crib came in, we have been stocking up on diapers, the shelves are coming together and her closet is getting more and more colorful. :) We have put together all of the stuff from my first shower and are really looking forward to our showers coming up!!

Drew's grandfather passed away last week. They had a really nice service and memorial for him that was put together by Drew's dad and aunt. It was nice to get to see some of Drew's extended family that we do not get to see often. Although Bill Jake will be missed, we all take comfort in knowing that he is at peace now.

Daddy is taking it one day at a time back on chemo and radiation. We all agree that he will keep on keeping on until it is too much to take and then he should just stop. As someone once told my grandmother, "Chemo is like pouring anti-freeze into your blood stream". Damn. That doesn't sound too fun! For now, he is on both and still has a great attitude! Since he reads my blog now.....Daddy, you rock! I love you and can't wait for you to teach Ella to hunt, fish, waterski and most importantly, make scout supper!

We are off to Asheville this weekend to celebrate my sisters 30th birthday. She is freaking out about being 30 but I say you are only as old as you feel. She sure doesn't act her age so I am sure she doesn't feel it! Happy Birthday Sister! Love you!
We had a pretty good Dr.'s appointment the other day. Dr. Cous said I looked great, heartbeat was great, I was measuring right on, good blood pressure, etc. Appointments are every two weeks now and I don't have to see any other Dr's because she is going to deliver Ella! Wooohooo! The only downer was that I failed the gestational diabetes test. My theory is that the piece of cake, 3 cookies and a plate full of fruit I had the evening before at the funeral reception might have had a tad bit to do with it. UGHHH....I am such an idiot sometimes. I was totally not even thinking about the fact that I had a SUGAR test in the morning. Oh well, we will see if I actually have it this Tuesday. I'll keep you posted.
11 Weeks to go!!!! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!! WE CANT WAIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Drew and I just stare at eachother when we are going to sleep and talk about how close it is getting and how excited we are. We start Birth & Baby class on Sept. 1st. That's pretty exciting. The end is getting near! I just hope it keeps going by as fast as it has!

It's official....

Our baby girl has a name!!!!!!!! After months of asking each other, "What in the world are we naming this baby?" we have finally decided. She is no longer "Nuggs", "Baby Girl", "Lil Bit", "Cindy Rendy" or any of the other 800 names she has acquired while in the womb! She is......
.
Ella James Rendleman
.
Ella was my favorite from the very start and its fitting I went back to it. I always do that. You would think that I would learn to go with my gut but it wouldn't be like me if I were able to make a decision easily. I can't even decide what I want for dinner! Much less, naming a person! This has been the biggest decision of my life! Good thing I had all these months to make it. It helps that Drew likes it a lot. He wasn't sold on the "James" as the middle name at first because it is so masculine but the more we talked about it the more it grew on him. Plus, it has special meaning. SO, there ya have it! Ella James!

6 1/2 months.....

We went to the Dr last Wednesday and everything is still progressing right along track. I am getting bigger and continue to have swelling but what else can you expect being 6 1/2 months pregnant in August!? Her heart rate was 145, my blood pressure was good and I am measuring right on. Well I am actually measuring a centimeter big and I have my own thoughts on that....ready?....here they go....my due date is wrong!!!! How in the world do I tell my Dr that she is wrong though? Either way you work it, by last period date or conception date, (sorry if this is TMI) it is off. I should be due the 6th or 7th of November. It is not physically possible, if ya know what I mean, that I am due on the 11th. If my due date were the 6th or 7th I would be measuring right on!! Anyway, I don't really know how to be like, "Hey Doc, you are WRONG!" Oh well. It's not that big of a deal until I am a week late by her due date which would really mean I am 2 weeks late.....then I end up having to have a c-section. I guess I am going to try and explain to her at our next appointment that I think she/the ultrasound tech are a few days off.

I had my fist baby shower this past weekend. It was the one my mom, with the help of Drew's mom, threw. It was mostly family with a few of my bestest girlfriends who might as well be family. I got wonderful gifts for the baby/nursery and even my jogging stroller!!!! :) I have already washed and put away the clothes, sheets and other laundry and put together the things that needed it. (except the stroller which Drew will be doing this weekend, little does he know) I do not have pictures yet because they are on moms camera but I will share with you when I do! Thank you Mommy and E for such a nice shower. I love and appreciate my family and friends so much.
My Daddy has been taken off his chemo for the time being. They obviously gave him way too much for him to handle because it pretty much rocked his world. He is going to try to get back on it when he gets better but at a much lower dosage and slower rate. He is still receiving his radiation treatments 5 times a week for now but that is also messing him up pretty bad. So we will see how that goes. He has started back at work some and still wants to continue his treatments if at all possible. He just needs to recover from that first go-round and they need to figure out an easier treatment. All the while he continues to have an amazing attitude!

I go back to the Dr the 18th for my gestational diabetes test and hopefully a due date adjustment. :) Then following that starts my rotation visits with the other Dr's in the office. I am not looking forward to that and remind Dr. Cousins each time I am in her office that SHE better be the one delivering this baby girl. I think I will be laying it on even thicker letting her know again that she "slipped" so for that she owes me big.....like so big she has to come in especially for me even if she isn't on call. She said last time we were in there that she would do everything possible to be there but if she won the lottery between now and then that she could promise us that she wouldn't be there! Drew asked if he could go with her where ever she goes when she whens the lottery and she then turned to me and said, "Well, it looks like if I when the lottery you are going to be having this baby solo"!!

Here are some more of our beach pictures.....enjoy!

Much Love,
Laine

Back to reality....

We had a wonderful vacation at the beach with my family! Oak Island is my kind of beach.....there is nothing to do! I slept, ate and sat on the beach for an entire week. It was wonderful! All I needed and more. I feel relaxed, rejuvenated and ready to take on the last leg of this journey......the third trimester! I can't believe we are almost to the THIRD/FINAL/LAST trimester! It's really time to start getting prepared, have baby showers, take our baby classes and all the stuff that means the end (or beginning rather) is near! We are SOOO excited!

So "baby girl" (since we STILL do not have a name finalized) is 14 inches long from head to toe this week. I busted out the tape measure at home last night and that is really long! Her "crown to rump" measurement is somewhere around 9 inches and she is weighing in at close to 2lbs.! She is almost fully developed now with only fat to pack on and lungs to more fully develop. Her skin has been almost clear and see through until now when her capillaries are forming under there turning her skin to the normal pink color. She is moving like crazy these days and I find myself just staring at my belly watching her do her dance.

My brother was SO sweet to take some preggers pics of us on the beach while we were there. (with his new camera of which I am extremely jealous) I will post more later because he has only sent me 4 so far but we got some of the best pictures of us to date. I like these way better then the professional ones we had taken for our engagement...And that says a lot being that I am a casual 40lbs. heavier now then I was then! lol! Here are a few.....

Notice my new wedding band in that last picture?! My grandmother Nancy is letting me wear my grandfathers wedding band while I am pregnant and too swollen for my rings. I think that it is really cool and special that she is letting me borrow it. It really means a lot to me. I'll let you all in on a little secret.....the baby's middle name is going to be James after my grandfather Jim and my great uncle, Uncle Bob. Thanks Nancy! I love you!

Daddy blog...

Well I have decided to give the momma a break this week and take over blog duties so we shall see how this goes....never really "blogged" before but apparently it is the new thing to do so ill try it out....

Where to start.....Well, Laine's belly is getting huge! Apparently the baby has finished developing most of everything (except her lungs I think) so the rest of the pregnancy will be her putting on lbs and filling out that little body of hers. Her little face now looks like what she is going to when she is born...Crazy huh. Here is a picture of that belly I was talking about....

"Whaaa"!
Ha just kidding mommy you're beautiful! To her credit this is right after a big dinner with her girlfriends. Everyone needs to give her props for sticking to her new diet, she is doing awesome...We were just talking the other day about when we visited the doctor to hear the heart beat before we went out of town when we were only like 10 weeks along...I can't believe time has gone by so quickly and this little girl is going to be here before we know it! Laine was really pushing to get one of these 3D ultrasounds done but I think I have talked her out of it...If anyone has any experience with these feel free to pass on your recommendations. This blog thing is tough by the way....so this might be the one and only from pops...for this baby at least...

The nursery has now turned into our official dog fighting arena...Ha just kidding but it is Bentley and Lexi's new favorite place to play/wrestle. It has the most carpeted open space in the house so they can go wild on it and not slide all over the place like they do on the hardwoods...I got 5 on Lexi by the way...

I am the referee...

We are going to the beach for an entire week tomorrow and we can not wait! The Trotters are a lot of fun and it is going to be so nice to take a break from things and kick back and enjoy the water and beach. And many thanks to B and E for taking the dogs this week....they love comin to your house where the treats are endless.

I hope you have enjoyed my first blog. Much love to all!

-Drew

My little gymnast!

How about I SAW my belly move last night! The little things that amuse me right now make me laugh! I was sitting on the couch as she started to move a lot so I lifted up my shirt and start staring. Sure enough about 2 seconds later the whole left side of my belly jumped. It was crazy. I watched it a few more times before running to get my camera to video it. As soon as I sat back down with my camera ready she went back to sleep. Oh well, I will catch her one day! I call her my little gymnast among the 1000 other nicknames she already has. She is a wiggle worm for sure!

We went to the Dr on Tuesday for our 22 week check up. (By the way, last weeks post should have said 22weeks / 5 1/2months) Everything was great.....blood pressure, baby's heart rate, my uterus was measuring right on (23 cm), etc. It is now past my belly button so she is taking up most of my belly now. Before people would touch my belly way up high and I would be like, "well, she is actually way down here" but now she really is taking up all that space! Oh, and when my tummy growls....it is so weird to hear it growl way on my side! It just shows me how much my intestines really are pushed out of the way! Anyway, I got in a tiny bit of trouble because I have put on 3 more pounds then I should have....but I don't really care. For one, I am retaining a bunch of fluid. My ankles and legs are so swollen when I push my finger in them it leaves a whole there for about 10 minutes. Dr. "Cous" said to drink double the water I am already drinking and to watch my sodium intake. I am also putting myself on a new diet.....the NO EATING ANYWHERE THAT HAS A DRIVE THRU diet. I started it Tuesday and plan on really sticking to it. Drew has cooked every night this week! He is the best! Tuesday I am starting prenatal yoga and will be doing that twice a week through the rest of my pregnancy as well. So with all that said, the weight thing should not be a problem again. As a matter of fact, I can already wear my wedding rings again! Yay!

My baby shower dates are set!!!! I'm so excited!!! My work shower is on September 10th and the one my friends are throwing me is on September 12th!!! My mom is also throwing me a family shower in early August. Not sure when that date is. She is having shoulder surgery later on in August so she is going ahead and doing that before she will be out of commission for 8 weeks. I cant wait!!!!!!!!!!!

My Daddy is starting a pretty rough chemo and radiation treatment next week. He is having surgery on Monday to insert a port-a-cath where his chemo with be hooked up. Tuesday he starts chemo which will be a 5 1/2 week, 24 hrs a day process. He will wear it in a fanny pack type bag and a nurse will come to his home once a week to flush/change chemo in his fanny pack. He will also be going to radiation several (either 3 or 5, I cant think right now) times a week during the 5 1/2 weeks of chemo. Yeah, sounds rough to me too. He on the other hand, continues to have a great attitude about it and is ready to get it all over with and have himself a granddaughter!!! :) Your continued prayers are greatly appreciated!

Drew is off to the beach for the weekend with a bunch of boys to celebrate one of his best buddy's bachelor party weekend. Man, am the nicest pregnant wife EVER or what!!!??? My Dad (Cooper) and I are going to have a "date-night" tonight and go eat dinner at PFChangs. I think the pooches and I can hold down the fort for the weekend. We shall see. Drew told "his girls" (me and the baby) that he loves us bunches and misses us already this morning. I just hope he has a good time with his buddies because these days are coming to an end here REALLY soon! :)

Much Love,
Laine

22 Weeks/ 5 1/2 months.....

Its a growin! My belly and every other part of me. I am pretty much over being disappointed in my disappearing figure and have moved on to knowing what an amazing miracle Drew, myself and my body are preforming!

I love this little girl so much already! I know she has a ways to go before she is ready to meet us but I sure am ready to meet her. Just after I posted last week about not being able to feel her as much because of the placenta location she started going to town in my belly. She is moving so much now that even Drew can feel her on my belly! It makes things so real! She was "flipping" out on my way into work this morning as I was singing really loud in my car.....I figure that she either loves hearing my voice and the music or she is trying to tell me to shut the hell up with that awful attempt at singing! LOL. :)

Here is the Peter Rabbit painting that Drew's mom, Elene did for the nursery. I LOVE IT! It is my favorite thing she has ever done and I couldn't be happier with it. It was Drew's Fathers-to-be-day gift from her. How sweet, right!!??

Here is what it looks like over the changing table. THANK YOU E!!!!! WE LOVE YOU!

Here is the chandelier that Jess Poole came and hung for us a few weeks ago. I got the little shades to go on it the other day and think it looks fabulous!

Here we have the side table with an old lamp I found in a closet that my mommy painted to match the green in our fabric. Love it! And a cute little picture frame that says "our family" on it that I can't wait to put a picture in!

Now we just need the bedding and to finish the built-ins. Not sure when the bedding will be done but I am coming along with decorating the built-ins. I will take some shots of those for next weeks post.
I hope everyone has a fun and safe July 4th weekend. We are off to Morehead City/Atlantic Beach to hang with Bennette and Andy. Nick and Rachel are heading down from DC for the weekend too and I am SOOOOO excited to see everyone!! I don't know if its a good thing or a bad thing that I can't drink right now when it comes to hanging out with this crew.....I'm talking some serious fun!!
Much Love,
Laine
